Give me half a second of a song and I’ll tell you which one it is. I’m Raphael. Jazz, house, hip-hop, Latin, indie, rock, none of it in boxes. As often as I can in a city I don’t know, with people I didn’t know yesterday. That’s why I DJ.
Clubs as the starting point
Clubs.Festivals.Weddings.Same instinct.
I started in clubs. That’s where you learn quickly what matters: either it works, or it doesn’t.
Festivals are the big version of that. Weddings the personal one. Just a different room, the same decisions.
No fixed timelines. No forced moments. Just a dancefloor that builds naturally.
The human
I read the room before it tips.
Studied psychology because I get to the bottom of things. How the feeling in a room shifts just because certain people are in it: that’s my job, long before the first song plays.
A set is not a programme.
There are few days in life when all your best people stand in the same room. Whoever runs through the top 15 then leaves behind the moment that could have been the best of the night.
During the reception I’m not behind the decks.
I mingle with the guests for a bit, listen, see who’s there and how people tick. Eyes and ears open, for the party later.
Spotify has given up on me.
At home something different from on the road, and something else again while cooking. On a free Sunday: friends, going out to eat, a concert, a musical, comedy. Ideally all in one day.
I don’t bend myself out of shape.
I find my way into any room. But I don’t play against myself. Not everyone likes that. I’m fine with it.

On the road

I don’t travel to tick off sights. I want to know what people eat at night, what music comes out of the bars and how a city feels at sunset. I take that home, and months later it turns up in a set. Not as a song, but as a feeling.
And then the moment I arrive somewhere for the second time, the waiter nods as if I had never left, and I notice: this already feels like home.
